The Lead Hook – Our favourite, but most difficult punch 💣

The Hook is a bent-arm punch, used at close-range where the power is generated from the twisting of the lower body and torso to the right side, transferring the boxer’s weight from the front foot to rear. The Hook can be delivered to the head or body after landing a Cross. The Hook is most effective when close to an opponent as an inside power punch.

Key points of a good hook:

·      The hook is all about legs, hips, and core.

·      The hips start rotating before the shoulders follow.

·      The elbow follows directly behind the fist with the elbow flexed at ninety degrees.

·      The hook is driven using the muscles of the core, with the weight of both shoulders, both arms, the head and the upper torso providing the drive.
